How to export from Asana
A single project
Open the project in Asana, then from the arrow beside its name:

Asana exports one project at a time, so repeat it per project and add the files together in one upload.
Accepted formats: JSON, or ZIP. You can upload several files together in one go.
What comes across, and what does not
Comes across
- Tasks with their names and descriptions
- Due dates and completion state
- Assignees, and the preview asks you who each one is on your team
- Subtasks, as ordinary tasks in the same list
- Sections, as task lists
Does not come across
- Comments. An Asana export does not carry them at all, and the discussions stay in Asana.
- Files you uploaded inside the tool itself. Their bytes are not in the export at all, and fetching them would need your credentials for that account. Links do come across, inside the task's notes.
- Custom fields and rules, which have no counterpart in Fareeqy.
Before you start
JSON export needs Asana Starter or above. Subtasks arrive as ordinary tasks, because each carries an assignee, a date and a state, all of which would be lost as a line inside another task's description.
How the import runs
Nothing is written until you approve it
Upload the file and we read it, then show you exactly what would be created: how many projects, task lists and tasks, every title we would have to rename, and every person on your board. Only the confirm button creates data.
Duplicate titles are settled in front of you
Your board has three cards called Follow up, and the board's own name may already belong to a project you made last year. We rename, and every rename is on screen before you confirm, not after.
Upload the same export again safely
Re-exported after another week of work? Upload it again. What you imported before keeps your edits, and only what is new is added. This is a migration tool, not a two-way sync, so an import never overwrites what you changed inside Fareeqy.
The file stays yours
Delete it from the import page whenever you want. Forget about it and we delete it automatically after 30 days.
Frequently asked questions
Do Asana comments come across?
No. An Asana export does not contain comments at all, which is a limit of the export rather than of the import. Tasks, descriptions, dates, assignees and subtasks all come across.
What happens to subtasks?
They become ordinary tasks in the same list. Each subtask carries an assignee, a date and a completion state, all of which would be lost as a line inside the parent task's description.
Do I need a paid Asana plan to export?
Yes, JSON export needs Starter or above. On the free plan you can export your project to CSV and import it here as a spreadsheet instead.
