How to change your email address

Permission: Owner, Manager, or Team Member

Change your login address yourself, we send a confirmation link to the new address, and your email doesn't change until you open it.

You can change the email address you sign in with, from your account settings and without going through support. The one rule to remember: your address does not change until you open the confirmation link sent to the new address.

Sending the change request

  1. Click your profile photo at the top of the page, then pick “Account Settings”.
  2. Open the “Login & Security” tab.
  3. Click the “Change your email address” row. The row shows your current address before you open it.
  4. Enter the new address in “New email address”.
  5. Enter your password in “Current password”.
  6. Click “Send confirmation link”.

Note: If you sign in with Google and have never set a password, the “Current password” field doesn't appear and isn't required.

What happens after you send

  • The confirmation link goes to the new address only.
  • Your old address stays the login address, and nothing in your account changes before you open the link.
  • The link expires within 3 days.
  • Opening the link signs you in and returns you to the “Login & Security” tab with the message “Your email address has been updated to …”. Use it to sign in from now on.

Managing the request before it's confirmed

  • An “Awaiting confirmation” badge appears on the row, so you know a request is unfinished without opening anything.
  • The form disappears and two buttons take its place: “Resend link” and “Cancel change”.
  • Wait 2 minutes between one send and the next. Ask sooner and you'll get “Wait two minutes and try again”.
  • “Cancel change” asks you to confirm, then drops the request and kills the link already sitting in the new inbox, so it stops working.
  • Only one request can be pending at a time, so to send it to a different address, cancel the current one first, then start again.

If you see “We couldn't complete the email change. The link may have expired or already been used.”, the two usual causes are the three days running out, or someone else registering that address while you waited. Either way your old address is still live and still signs you in, so nothing is lost. Just start the request again.

Tip: Link didn't arrive? Check the new address's inbox and its spam folder, the link is never sent anywhere else.

Warning: Mistyped the new address? Nothing is broken, because your account never changed. Click “Cancel change” and start a new request with the right address.

Note: We ask for your current password for one reason: so nobody can move your login address from a session you left open.
