How to record the time spent on a task

Permission: Owner, Manager, or Team Member

Every task carries one field for how long it took. You type the number right where the task already is, with no timer and no timesheet, and reports total it afterwards.

Record time on a task

  1. Open the task, or find it in its row inside a task list, or on its card on the home page, in My Tasks, or on the Projects page.
  2. Click the time-spent field.
  3. Type the duration in whichever format you are used to, then confirm. The number saves in place, with no save button and no second screen.

The three accepted formats

  • 1:30, an hour and a half in hours and minutes.
  • 1.5, the same hour and a half in decimal hours.
  • 90, in minutes.

Note: All three mean the same thing, and Fareeqy displays one consistent format after saving, so the number never looks different from one member to the next.

Correct or clear the number

Type a new number and it replaces the old one, while the change stays written in the task log: who changed it, and from what to what. Clearing the field returns the task to unmeasured. Recorded time starts at one minute, so zero isn't accepted: an empty field means nobody measured it, and it never gets mixed up with a real number.

Who can record time?

Any member who can see the task can record its time, even when their role does not allow editing tasks. The person who did the work is the one who knows how long it took, so routing the number through someone else would add nothing.

Where do you read your team's hours?

In company, project, department, team, and member reports. You get the total time recorded in the period together with its coverage, how many tasks carry a number out of how many, and the average per measured task. The breakdown then appears in charts by task, by member, by project, and per day. The same number comes out in CSV and Excel exports, and in the scheduled reports that reach your inbox.

Tip: Tip: read the coverage before the total. A small total can mean the team worked little, or that nobody logged anything, and without coverage the two look identical.

Ask Fareeqy Assistant to record it

Tell Fareeqy Assistant how long the task took, by text or by voice, and by default it shows you a confirmation card carrying the number. Review it, then approve to save. If the number needs fixing, send the right one in your next message and it shows a new card with it.

Not seeing the time field?

  • Time tracking is available on the Advanced, Productive, and Enterprise plans.
  • The company owner also has a switch in Company Settings that turns the feature off for the whole company, which removes the field from every task. Recorded numbers stay saved, and reappear when the switch is turned back on.

The result? You stop estimating how long the work took from memory, and read it as a number in your report.
